7/9/2018 ~ A Texan 4th

"Out of all the things I expected to do on my mission..... This didn't even cross my mind." - Elder Pollock

That basically describes my week pretty well. This week had some crazy moments. To start out the week we went to Portales for District Meeting and afterwards I went on a short exchange with the Portales Spanish missionaries and Elder Pollock went with the English Portales Elders. And I had such a fun time the Elders I went with. They could very well be the funniest companionship in the mission. So that was super fun!! While I was there we were fed by a member in their Branch, which the food was super good..... But there was a catch! They only spoke Spanish, and mi no hablo Español😂 so I sat there confused the whole hour only understanding like half of the conversation. But there was something that really touched me while I was there. When we were getting ready to leave Elder Humphrey had a spiritual thought prepared. And even though couldn't understand like anything that he was saying..... I still felt the spirit and It made me realize that if we don't do the things in life that invite the spirit into our lives can be very confusing. But when we do the things that invite the spirit, we feel the spirit and Heavenly Father's love. I thought that was a cool experience.

The next morning after we got back from Portales a little late we had to get up at 5 to go and get everything ready for the Lubbock parade. We got asked to get about 12 missionaries to ride bikes through the parade for a Cycling Association in town. So that was a hot and wild morning!! If you ever want to see all of Lubbock (normal and crazies) just go to the Downtown parade. The rest of our 4th was pretty normal. Taught some lessons, trying to find people to talk to..... Kinda hard when all of them are drunk, but it was a good time. We ended our 4th by going to a Huge BBQ with some high quality brisket👌

The rest of our week consisted of teaching a bunch of crazy people and having some of the weirdest lessons of my mission. Lots of meal appointments with some sweet families in the ward, and this week we also said goodbye to the Mordue's. They were a senior couple I sent a picture with a few weeks back. They are awesome and we are going to miss them!

Here is a scripture that I have seen play a part in on my mission so far. This is Jesus speaking in Matthew 11:28-30

28 ¶ Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

I know that Our Savior lives. If we do our part in living righteously, and turn to him for comfort and peace. I promise that you can feel a difference in you life. Rely on Him and he will give you rest.

7/2/2018 ~ Rain come down and Floods come up

Hello family and friends,

This week was a pretty good week for us. To start our week we had exchanges here in our area with the Plainview elders. I went with Elder Paquette. He is from Alberta, Canada. The exchange consisted of lots of knocking on doors, lots of lessons fall through, lunch at Costco, and a Bible bash to a guy I gave a Book of Mormon to a while ago in Walmart. He gave us a call so we were expecting something good to come out of it.... But that's how the work goes sometimes.

We did have quite a bit of success with finding new people to teach this week though. With dropping all of our investigators that weren't progressing and giving more time to finding and less active families. We found 2 new investigators through the less active families and we found 3 new investigators through knocking on some doors.... Which is unusual!! We are pretty excited and see some great potential in a couple of them. If y'all could remember us in your prayers this week to be able to be a le to meet with all of them and teach them, that would be awesome!!

This week we also helped a new family move into our ward. They are the Fehoko's, and they are one of the coolest families I have met on my mission. They have tons of crazy sweet things about their family that blew my mind. Here's a couple...... Bro. Fehoko can curl 150 pounds... No joke either I watched him do it..... All of their sons have played in the NFL, and one son goes to the draft next year. Their family is mentioned in The Other Side of Heaven. And Bro. Fehoko is featured at the start of Hawaiian 5' O doing the hakauh. And lots more! But the are super sweet and very very willing to feed us! They took us to lunch after we helped them to this super good Hawaiian BBQ place and told us if you aren't gaining weight with us then we are doing something wrong! 😅

Tender mercy of this week was that I got to go to the temple for the first time in 11 months. Which in the moment I didn't really notice that big of a difference in my daily life. But going to the temple this week was such a refresher. All of stress and build up of everything else going on was almost just gone after I went. There is such a peace that comes with going to the temple that I feel like sometimes we look over, or don't even recognize it. By going to the temple we partake of some of the blessings that Heavenly Father has given us here on earth. I invite all that can to go to the temple this week. Go with a question and prayerfully ask Heavenly Father while you are there and I promise that you will have a greater understanding to the answer that you are searching for.

A scripture that has been on my mind quite a bit this week is Matthew 7: 24-27..... This is what it says---

24 ¶ Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

Here on earth we have been given every single tool to build our "foundation for our house." Those tools are more important than we realize sometimes. The little things we do are way more important than we realize sometimes. But as we do those things that is continually building our foundation upon that Rock instead of the sand. I know I have mentioned this many times over the course of my mission so far, but that is because I have seen that by the small and simple things that we do.... Our Father in Heaven is shaping us to who we can become. But that requires being humble enough to be humbled. Don't forget the small things:)

Howdy everyone.

Gonna be a pretty short one today.... I really just want to type up a long one, so if you want to hear more from me email me😁

-Zone Conference this week. Me and my comp instructed about using Facebook. 

-Had an exchange with Elder Markowski.  It was pretty fun. We went finding on Texas State campus. #Babylon

-Lots and Lots of finding this week.  I'm very Baptist is a common response.

- Cleaned the granite outside of the temple.

- Drove to Plainview Texas, to pick up a washer in the dryer for some other missionaries here in Lubbock

- Sweating our faces off on bike day

-Played basketball with our ward mission leader and some punk teenagers... Threw down on those fools.

- Knocked on the door, guy opened up the door, walk to close the door, ripped his nipple ring off with the door, then was in pain the whole time we were talking to him. Super funny

-106 degrees outside..... Too hot!!
